The report, prepared for the Z Smith Reynolds Foundation, identifies the extent to which income and economic opportunity disparities exist in North Carolina for people of color and women and analyzes the potential of manufacturing-related jobs and careers as pathways to increased family incomes and wealth generation capacity. Based on the findings from this effort, the report then directly addresses the subject of expanding opportunities for people of color and women. It does this by first addressing major barriers to participating in higher-wage manufacturing jobs and careers for people of color and women. Next it identifies a series of issues that should be taken under consideration when developing opportunity expansion strategies and actions. It then concludes by offering seven specific opportunity expansion strategies that can be led or implemented by non-profit intermediaries.
