RTS in conjunction with Penn State University assessed the workforce trends and training requirements necessary to meet the needs of the Appalachian Regional Commission region’s increasingly important energy sector. The analysis examined both the traditional extractive energy sectors along with the growing clean and green sectors. We projected the workforce needs and gaps of the individual clusters, such solar and coal and for the broader energy sector, and examined the workforce training resources needed to meet those needs. The analysis also included case studies of exemplary college programs in each of the ARC states and a series of findings and recommendations to better meet the needs of the clusters.
